A genuine apology is when they explain what they are sorry for and take ownership of it. A fake apology meant to just pacify is generic and not explained.

My ex apologizes to all of his women and does certain things to get out of trouble. He convinces you he’s being genuine, but he goes back to what it was when he finds another way.
