My son opened the door for a woman on the WSU campus and she lit into him with scathing remarks. His reply was similar to this. He told her he was just being polite and was raised to be a gentleman.

sadly, my son is this kind of young man, and it’s not really accepted very well. lol

I see all them cliché relationship rules; all if them about how a Man must do this and that for a Woman; to prove that He is a real Man. Never ever seen one that says a real Woman needs to do this to, show how worthy She is of her Man.

Well, I offered this lady to load a 20 kg bag of mortar into her Home Depot shoping cart and got the “Why do you think I need help?” I guess that some women don’t get the gentleman concept, and may just ruin it for the rest.

I still remember the day I cried and he pulled out his handkerchief….that is a gentleman. It’s those small gestures. Pulling out her chair..opening her door…THAT is what MATTERS. His Momma raised a GENTLEMAN!!

Older men still do this. Most chivalrous men i met are all older man, married and already have children. There’s no hope for my generation. I would be happy to be proven wrong but for now, cat lady seems like the most realistic ending for me.

Basically it’s respect, I was raised to hold doors for a lady and the eldelry, I personal dont do it but I tell a man of I see him open a car door for his lady how much I respect that, I just got out of the habit of doing it , what sad is when a woman holds a door for a boy, I see a lot of boys do this make thier girl hold the door for them, I try to grab the door from the girl when I can

A true man will do this, but at the same time knows what kind of woman he has when he has a strong and independent woman to do it all herself

My mama taught me that right from the get go when we were very young. Always respect women and treat them like queens they are born that way to be catered for by the males.

That is the truth, I had a difficult time accepting his respectful and gentlemanly gestures for me. But, I gracefully swallowed my pride and thanked him for his kindheartedness. Now, he and I are closer than ever and look forward to a wonderful future.

I really appreciate when men does that, I see it as very helpful and sweet. But I don’t want men to do that for me, that’s my way of respecting them. If we claim that men and women should be equal, in all ways it should reflect.

This is a taught mannerism. True respect is when they treat their woman as a partner, consider how his actions will affect her,and not treat women as objects.

My spouse opens the door for me and pulls out the chair. I always look at him weird. I know he’s being respectful and polite. In my head I am thinking, I can do it myself. I have arms. I try to hold the door for him but he doesnt like it.

Sure, I can open my own doors and carry my own things. I SO appreciate it when a man does those things for me. I never take it for granted and I always remember to say “Thank You”.
