No, respect is suppose to be given. Period.

Respect is given freely. Disrespect is earned

100% agree you lose the trust you need to try to get it back and it hard to do that. Because now the other person will be second guessing if you are being true

Simple common respect is not earned. Its given until its not returned. How does one”earn “respect? We should respect everyone simply because that is what you do in a civil society. For example based on this , Im supposed to withhold my respect until someone earns it? Is there some kind of respect test I dont know about? Although I do believe there are different kinds of respect. The other being the kind that people would earn due to their accomplishments .
