Exactly. Having to let her guard down, is baby steps after being with someone who did this to you for 25 years. Only realizing towards the end it was lies. So definitely have trust issues the wall does come down!! Little at a time. But generally just go with your gut instincts. I wish I did then.

I refuse to live this way even though I was lied to and deceived for almost 20 years. Every man is a new man and I cannot allow my past to dictate how I respond to him because that is living in fear.

Only problem with this post is it implies that this is only a men against women problem. It’s rough because when you have trust issues from your past relationships, it affects the relationships you have now. You end up thinking everyone is going to hurt you in the same way.

True…given my heart and been promised it wouldn’t be broken only to have it shattered to pieces. From now on I don’t my heart away and my walls are up until you prove to me through time that you truly care about me.

Sucks when you let your walls down a little to let someone in and they somehow go right in where it hurts the most, seemingly to help but then, a sucker punch. Women who have been lied to, manipulated, cheated on and toyed with will always be extra cautious & look for red flags. I’m one that is quick to walk away if I’m disrespected & not treated like I’m wanted. Been through enough heartbreak, won’t tolerate more.

I disagree. We’ve all been hurt and broken down at some stage in our lives, but I believe one should have the maturity to identify one’s trust issues, acknowledge them, dig deeper to find the root of these issues, and then resolve them. Yes, we get hurt, but building walls is neither admirable nor sensible. What we should be doing is learn our lessons and move through life wiser.
