I say “what’s up” as a way to get people to talk about their day and see if anything new has been going on with them. I also use it to probe for answers when I know someone seems upset. Usually there is a “how are you” thrown in beforehand, for both common courtesy and because I truly want to know if they are ok. This use of “small talk” can lead to deep moments. ? so true. The “what’s up” is for those that need to kept at a distance. Unfortunately for me, that list is short. I like to know ppl… Not just what they think deeply and believe in but how they, specifically, process and all of the reasons to why they process that way. Haha. I can talk about anything and everything. If I want to, I can ask a million questions to the point where there is no answer for it. I like deep conversations and knowing the person inside out from the past to future.
