High expectations are put on this day yet to me it’s just an opportunity to affirm to the one I love that she’s special and she to me. Don’t get too caught up in the commercialism of it just use the day to remind and share your thoughts with the one you love. Don’t have a significant other? How about a brother or sister? Mom or Dad? If I date everyday I lost my excitement of “date” itself. I am not a romantic person, I nag alot about cleanliness of house and tidyness of work space. Some time I need it for excuse to make a candle light dinner cos after the day of our anniversary we don’t have much time to spent in romantic way. But sometimes when I’m tired I just skip it anyway. I like Valentine’s Day, and gifts and flowers and such. It goes without saying that you should be sweet to your partner every other day, too, so chill out. It’s just one day. Not everyone can afford gifts on random days. My bf and I go on dates but we don’t exchange gifts or spend too much money. V-day is a good time to give a gift and splurge a little more. Got my dude a DVD collection, he got me an album.

I don’t even waste my time with this overly commercialized “holiday”. It’s a crock. Love should be shown every day, doing something spontaneously for your significant other, not just when Hallmark tells you to. I see nothing special or romantic about people feeling forced to express their affections on Valentine’s Day… it’s far more meaningful and appreciated when something special is done because they want to, not when they feel they have to.

That should say “significant other” instead of girlfriend because it applies to more than girlfriends. Wives should still be dated, too!
