Worst advice ever! Best friends last a few years; marriages longer. Find someone who has no problem that each of you have best friends.

A lover is a best friend, when you have a person in your life that you can talk to and confined to and also a person who you share a lot of things in common , that a Best Friend!!!

I agree, don’t marry a best friend, you know. I mean you and your lover will become friends but that’s a relationship that has grown, as opposed to one that’s established.

Isn’t what the mean the person you’re dating should be like your best friend….i don’t think marrying your best friend is a good idea either but I doubt that what they meant. I mean i would want my husband to be someone I love and who is my friend I want my boyfriend and I to like each other first!

My partner and I grew up together, only took 27-28 years of feelings and other bumps in the road for us to finally be together and now we are expecting our first child together.

i disagree wholeheartedly. my husband of over 30 years and i were total opposites. im maori, hes caucasian; hes from the country, im a city girl through and through; he loves watching motorsports and rugby on tv, im more the social butterfly – bbqs or going out with family and friends. only my opinion but relationships are more complex than being compatible or being best friends. if you have the same goals, transparency in the relationship (to build and maintain TRUST) and open communication – that will definitely be a solid foundation to build on towards marriage.

I married a person who became my best friend. We were always together, happy and in love, real love. October 28th, will 5 years since I lost my best friend to a seizure. He was 34 years old, never hung out in the streets, didn’t drink, smoke, do drugs, anything. We had that old school, I can’t believe their still together love. We were together for 17 years, no break ups or time outs. The whole 17 years. I miss him so much.
